Moroccan Curtains
Creating a Luxurious Room with Moroccan Curtains
Creating a Moroccan look and style in a room can be achieved by simply hanging great Moroccan curtains in the room, combined with a few other similar styled furnishings or accessories. It can be one of the easiest and fun designer projects to undertake and the Moroccan look can be easily achieved by following a few simple rules.
When you are designing a Moroccan style room, the curtains should be the first starting point to create a focal point in a room used for relaxation and private retreat. The curtain area is the visual area in the room, which attracts the first attention when entering a room and can tie together the other aspects of the room. When initially putting together ideas for Moroccan curtains in a room, think of romantic Arabian and nights and the dramatic colors, which this will reflect. Rich colors such as saffron gold and cinnamon red in the fabric of the curtains will create a luxurious and exotic look synonymous with Morocco, flickering desert fires under a dark night sky and rich foods and culture. Also, look for other colors, which will reflect the character of the place such as the rich earthly colors of spices and dark browns such as coffee and cinnamon. In addition, choose luxurious textures which filter light but do not obscure it. Even a layered look can enhance the Moroccan style of the curtains. For this reason, it is really easy to put your own unique style and stamp on the curtain design.
The length of traditional Moroccan curtains reach all the way to the floor regardless of the size of the window. Curtains often overflow on the floor for a further touch of luxury and softness. If the window is very small, it might be a good idea to enlarge the area of the hangers so that the curtains cover a larger area and create the illusion of a larger window. The luxurious spicy and romantic colors of Moroccan styles will not fit a very small curtain or window. Pleats should be deep and generous and it is a good idea to drape the fabric over the curtain hangers instead of hanging curtains with hooks from below the hangers. Curtain hangers from wrought iron or Moroccan carved wood will fit Moroccan style curtains. Fabric designs in paisleys and tapestry designs will enhance the luxurious looks further. Use tiebacks in generous gold and saffron colors with embroidery in traditional Moroccan styles. Tussles weaved from heavy silk are also suitable. Curtains in traditional Moroccan style often have canopies in the same fabric as the curtains, finished off in traditional embroidery similar to the tiebacks.
When designing a Moroccan style room the curtains should be the first point of consideration to create a great focal point and will tie together many aspects of rich colors and fabrics. It is easy to imagine and create the Moroccan design when the colors of rich spices and traditional Moroccan textures are kept in mind. A stylish and romantic window dressing with Moroccan curtains will enhance a new and luxurious style for your Moroccan design project.
