Blue Curtains
Balance Your Environment with Blue Curtains
Now, curtains are generally some of the least appreciated things out there, especially blue curtains. I don’t mean this in a negative or pejorative sense; people just don’t really notice curtains except when they do not do their job right and have to be changed or moved. Curtains are sometimes seen as “just being there”; curtains are just accessories to the main star, the windows. And yet, curtains are pretty important in everyday life, and life without curtains would get a bit weird.
After all, curtains don’t just let in light and shutter light out. Curtains don’t just allow you to see while protecting your furniture from fading. Curtains protect your privacy, and they protect your state of mind. In this way, curtains are pretty much a metaphor for the rest of your house; while curtains literally protect your privacy, they metaphorically protect the rest of you. This gives your curtain choice a great power and makes choosing the perfect curtains a very heavy decision at times.
The thing about curtains, however, is that while they are important and should always be prettied up, they also should not really be noticed all that much. After all, they are still just glorified, more useful and better shutters. Being beautiful is part of the job description, but not being overly loud. The focus in a room should be on the furniture or art pieces or zenith points of light rather than the curtains themselves. Therefore, while perhaps curtains should always be made to look nice, they should never overshadow the other pieces in the room or the windows themselves. The best way to do this would be to make sure that the curtains are not too ornate, and are in more neutral colors that balance out and compliment the other decorations and colors in the room rather than stand out and contrast with them. The best examples would be white or pale blue curtains in a room with a more cool and cold color scheme, or dark, deep velvety red in a more romantic, warm color scheme. Either way, these curtains do not as much stand out and make their own statements as much as support the other statements in the interior design.
Blue curtains, in particular, are great, as they not only generally compliment the other colors and are quite versatile, but will also reflect the skies outside. Of course, this is not always a good decision; if the world outside is a fantastical brown mountain or desert landscape, it’s probably best to not contrast with pastel blue too much or you run the risk of looking ridiculous. Additionally, pastel colors are not always good – if the rest of the room is bold and modern, you want to match that scheme.
Curtains are definitely a much more complicated interior piece than they at first would seem. White or blue curtains probably aren’t the end – all be – all of the interior design problem, but they can help simplify many decisions in most neutral living spaces, and should be considered seriously.
